The direct symbolism of icons work well online for the most part, but there are times where it will not, and it will be up to you, the designer, to make that judgment. This is because our personal experiences with UI and UX patterns have taught us that a shopping cart is a symbol for the cart page on an ecommerce site. If a cart icon were to take a user to another page, say your contact page, it would result in a disorienting experience for your user. They know that clicking the icon will take them to the shopping cart, allow them to review their selected items, and finally continue to checkout. Most users will instinctively recognize and understand what the cart icon signifies within the context of an ecommerce store. However, one of the most well-known ecommerce icon commonly used as a behavioral cue is the cart icon. Some ecommerce-specific situations where icons are commonly seen include: Since icons appear on almost every website, there exists a certain degree of familiarity among users, which can be leveraged to simplify your communication process and enhance your user’s on-site experience. When used correctly, icons provide users with a visual cue as to how they should behave when interacting with your website. Good iconography serves a very functional purpose in your ecommerce design: it acts as a sort of mental heuristic that helps users process on-page information more quickly and easily. Read on to discover some simple tips to get the most out of icons in your ecommerce designs. That’s why we’ve put together this brief article on iconography and ecommerce. But don’t let their small stature throw you off - icon usage requires the same attention to detail and thoughtfulness as every other element in your design. Icons are a good option for designers looking to provide users with a greater sense of guidance when interacting with their ecommerce site. Regardless of how amazing your product offering may be, if your users are presented with an overly complicated design, it will hinder their experience with your brand and they’ll likely leave without making a purchase. The effectiveness of any ecommerce design comes down to its ability to clearly communicate with its users.

The four-day trial was expected to feature musicians performing various instruments with Malone expected to testify as well.Ĭircles became Post Malone's fourth single to top the Billboard Hot 100 singles, and it even broke the singer's own record with 34 straight weeks in the top 10. The ruling stated that Armes has, 'no claim of authorship in the commercial release' of Circles, though he, 'demonstrates genuine disputes in regard to his authorship in the session composition.'Ĭountered: Post countered with a lawsuit that Armes didn't write any of the music used in the finished song and that he wasn't present in any of the future recording sessions District Judge Otis Wright leading to the trial that was entering jury selection when the settlement was reached. 'It is an age-old story in the music business that when a song earns the type of runaway success that ‘Circles’ has garnered, an individual will come out of the woodwork, falsely claim to take credit for the song, and demand unwarranted and unearned windfall profits from the song,' said Post's attorney Christine Lepera, who does confirm Armes was at the initial August 2018 recording session.īoth of the lawsuits were ultimately consolidated, with an April 2022 ruling by U.S. Post countered with a lawsuit that Armes didn't write any of the music used in the finished song and that he wasn't present in any of the future recording sessions. I was not just someone hanging out in the room, I’m a writer/producer in the room with two other writer/producers working on a song,' Armes said in a text to London cited in the lawsuit. The producer offered him a 5% share of publishing royalties, though when Armes tried to negotiate a higher stake, Post's manager Dre London shut down negotiations and said he would withdraw the offer if he didn't accept. The suit filed by Armes in April 2020 claimed that, while the lyrics to Circles hadn't been written yet, both the 'instrumentation and vocal melodies' recorded at the August 2018 recording session were, 'note for note rhythmically and melodically identical' to the finished version of the song.Īfter the song was released in August 2019, Armes claimed in the lawsuit that he reached out to one of the song's producers, Frank Dukes. I also met with Dandy at the "The End of Day", we flirted a lot of course and I bought him a bottle of wine and I told him about the Mayor's murder. In the evening, a stranger kept glancing and he reminded me of Winter, what a creep. Met Gunther too!ĭuring the afternoon, I applied as a duelist, did well and made a frenemy. Didn't tell him that I suspected him though. Deduced everything in the Mayor's room but I chose to tell Geoffrey that I think the Mayor's poisoned. On Day 1, met Orion and Imperion at the Mayor's house, tried to read Imperion's mind. RO: Dandy since Evertree (can't say no to a gorgeous half-elf) Here is my playthrough, or those that I can remember. How did you like the series? Have you tried any other RO? It's my personal favorite so I'm interested to know what you think! You need to read the memoirs every night to find out about this. Hopefully that does not backfire in Part 2!! Also, after meeting Mother Thalia, my MC deduced that she's the old lover of Mr. I won't go into details about what I learned from them because there's a lot of interesting stuff there and I don't want to spoil it!įrom this point till the end everything went exactly the same as yours except that I wasn't that annoyed at Cal and told Leah I forgive her (how can I not lol). After some haggling, I accepted to go upstairs with the bordello worker but lied that I have to go to the bathroom and sneaked away, and found Geoffrey with the mysterious woman from Day 1. In the evening I went to meet with Leah, but she wasn't there so I went to the brothel instead. Had the same encounter while writing the letter to my family as you. The owner of the cat saw it and offered to meet me at the end of Founder's day for job purposes. I spent the afternoon giving flyers to rich people and saving a cat. On the morning of Day 3 after leaving hungover Leah I visited the apothecary and found out about the Devil's Kiss and that someone recently acquired a huge amount of it. The entirety of Day 2 went exactly the same way yours did, except I trusted Cal completely and got a little drunk, which resulted in a fun scene with drunk Leah back at home! Also, I met my man Gunther on the way back!ĭuring the day I shared flyers for my peacekeeper job, and at night I saw the strange woman watching me at "The End of Day". On Day 1 I deduced everything I could about the mayor's murder: found out Geoffrey was not on his duty and that mayor may have been poisoned. Keep in mind I did some replays to make it as perfect as I can haha I have a different MC for each RO, but I will share what my "canon" playthrough is like (not that much different from yours tbh). The game seemed as though it wanted to constantly remind players that the people Joel and Ellie killed were indeed actually people with lives, names, and perhaps even daughters. Enemy NPCs would call out to each other by name, or even get upset when one of them died, and these decisions were intentional. That was not the case in The Last of Us 2's story. In video games, the player doesn’t often have to think about who they’re killing or get philosophical about the consequences of their actions. Basic enemy NPCs don’t generally have lives, families, or even names. Killing Joel off so early in the game allowed for The Last of Us Part 2 to do something different with its story. This was clearly going to have severe consequences, born out in the sequel. Whether or not he made the “right” choice is up for debate, as Ellie had become a daughter to him, but in the process of her rescue, he effectively ruined humanity’s chance of overcoming the virus. Perhaps his worst act was choosing to save Ellie in The Last of Us' ending, killing every doctor on the premises. And while it’s not entirely fair to place too much judgement on him given the state of the world in The Last of Us, the fact remains that he did questionable things and made plenty of enemies. He made choices to serve his own ends, even if he tried to justify them, up to and including torture. Joel's actions ultimately set him up for the fate developer Naughty Dog had in store for him. It’s made pretty clear in the first game that Joel was a flawed hero. With a story that can be as difficult as The Last of Us' heartbreaking narrative, it's unlikely that everyone would ever make it out unscathed. But that’s part of what sets the game apart from some of its peers, in that it aims to affect the player and make them think. So it’s understandable that some would be upset over Joel's death - especially given the way he dies and that it happens so early in the game. The first game really made players feel for Joel and Ellie it made a lasting connection. Something that makes The Last of Us rise above shock value, is how easy it is to get caught up in the story. Related: Last Of Us 2 Dev's Standalone Multiplayer Game Confirmed By Job Listing It goes to show that even though Joel’s death was difficult for a lot of people, The Last of Us 2 didn't suffer for it. And though the The Last of Us 2 was initially met with some outrage and skepticism, it still went on to be the PlayStation’s bestselling exclusive launch and Game of the Year. Its tense and stressful gameplay combined with its complex and heartbreaking story made for a massive success - so much so that it won Game of the Year. It is no surprise, then, that the game’s sequel was so highly anticipated. The Last of Us, which released in 2013, is considered by many to be a video game classic. The massive popularity of limbo emerges directly from this audience participation. In touristic presentations, professional limbo dancers often invite spectators to participate after their presentation. Limbo is still practiced and presented by numerous dance troupes in the context of the Prime Minister's Best Village Competition and during the Carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago. It is also widely heard in Jamaican mento recorded in the 1950s, in songs such as "Limbo" by Lord Tickler and Calypsonians or "Limbo" by Denzil Laing & the Wrigglers, as well as many other songs not directly related to the limbo dance theme. Indeed, in Jamaica, the trendy limbo music of the 1950s was often based on a clave rhythm. Limbo is unofficially considered the national dance of Trinidad and Tobago, which refers to itself as the land of limbo, steelpan (steel drums), and calypsoĪs Limbo spread out of Trinidad and Tobago to the wider world and the big screen, in several other Caribbean islands, such as Barbados and Jamaica, limbo became a major part of the tourism package. One major example is the song "Limbo Rock" (recorded by Chubby Checker), which became a number 2 charted hit on the Billboard Top 100, from which emerged the popular quote/chant that is associated with limbo which Checker also helped to popularize: "How low can you go?" Limbo was brought into the mainstream by Trinidadian Calypsonian Brigo (Samuel Abrahams) with his popular Soca song "Limbo Break" As Limbo gained popularity as a tourist activity and a form of entertainment, pop music began using Caribbean rhythms to respond to the emerging craze in the United States. Limbo dancers generally move and respond to a number of specific Afro-Caribbean drum patterns. Julia Edwards added a number of features that are now considered standard, such as human 'bars' formed by the limbs of other dancers and the use of fire in the performance of limbo. In its adaptation to the world of entertainment, troupes began reversing the traditional order. Traditionally, the limbo dance began at the lowest possible bar height and the bar was gradually raised, signifying an emergence from death into life. The contest ends when only one person can successfully "limbo" under the bar without penalty. After everyone has completed their turns, the bar is lowered slightly and the contest continues. No part of their bodies is allowed to touch the bar and no part other than their feet may touch the ground. When passing under the bar, players must bend backwards. Whoever knocks the bar off or falls is eliminated from the contest. All contestants must attempt to go under the bar with their backs facing toward the floor. The film Julia and Joyce (2010) by Trinidadian/American dance researcher/choreographer Sonja Dumas features the evolution of the Limbo and the contribution of Julia Edwards to the explosion of its popularity.Ī horizontal bar, known as the limbo bar, is placed atop two vertical bars. The dance originated as an event that took place at wakes in Trinidad and Tobago, and was popularized by dance pioneer Julia Edwards (known as the First Lady of Limbo) and her company which appeared in several films, in particular Fire Down Below (1957), and toured widely in the Caribbean, Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Africa in the 1960s and later. "Limbo is a traditional popular dance contest that was known to be originated on the island of Trinidad. Thanks also to all those who are quoted in this post. Thanks to all those who are featured in these videos and special thanks to the memory of Trinidadian Julia Edwards, who was an influential pioneer of the limbo dance. This is where the farmer logs on to and works with the information our back-end generates. It then communicates with the front-end, our web portal/online tool. The back-end does all the automated data collection and processing, and we spent a lot of time and effort to ensure that this comprises all kinds of data sources. What I can tell you is that our technology consists of a back-end and a front-end component. I am sorry to say, but I can’t tell you that much about it. That means the farmer needs concrete tools that support him in his decision and planning processes on a daily basis.Ĭould you tell us a bit more the Remote sensing algorithm behind GreenSpin? What does your geospatial software infrastructure look like? We want to move from maps to actual decision support. Today we have totally different technological opportunities. It was also probably an analog map, and the farmer was left alone in interpreting the map and deciding what to do with it. This may have been a map depicting fertilizer requirements or just a map of a vegetation index. A few years ago, (satellite-based) precision agriculture mostly meant that the farmers got a map. I can only tell what we think will be important for the farmers. At the core they all want the same: using new, connected technologies and data to improve agricultural efficiency and/or simplify the farmer’s life (if the latter is yet the case remains to be proven). There are just too many of them! Precision farming, Smart Farming, Decision Farming, Digital Cropping etc. I know that I mentioned Decision Farming at some point, but actually I am not a big fan of these terms. What exactly is Decision Farming and how is it different from Precision agriculture, Smart Farming, etc? I think farmers are finally willing to accept this help. But what we want to do is support them as far as possible, and help them use new tools and data so that they can concentrate on the important stuff. The farmers are the ones with the necessary experience and training to do the best job possible, and we would never try to do their job or replace them. Farmers are never going to trust computers (and scientists) more than their own experience. Basically, there is a need to produce more with less input. Public authorities require farmers to comply with a lot of regulations. Farms get bigger and are more professionally managed. And I think what you mean is “experience” □ But times change, and the farmers have also noticed that. We will start in Germany in 2015, but we have plans to quickly expand the coverage of the tool.Īre the farmers (finally) willing to trust computers and researchers more than their age-old traditions? ☺ All processes will be automated, and the tool will be available for all farmers in a certain country. Fertilizer application maps are just one example. The farmer can use this information directly to make decisions or generate certain maps that help in his daily operations. What we are doing at the moment is developing an online tool that simplifies the process of generating information from different data sources. We wanted to change that to a certain extent. However, currently the farmer itself has no real advantage from these new developments. Or at least, simplify a lot of complex processes. Most farmers don’t like that.Ī lot of people in the market think that big data, including but not limited to remote sensing and other geo-data, will take agricultural productivity to the next level. In addition, the farmer often loses his ability to make the actual decisions and he also has to give a lot of data about his business. The data is often too complex and there is a lack of simple solutions based on these data. Only when we began researching the market and talking to people, we realized exactly what potential Agri-Tech offers.Ī lot of people in the market think that big data, including but not limited to remote sensing and other geo-data, will take agricultural productivity to the next level. At that time, however, we didn’t have a complete overview of the current market. When we started in 2013, we believed that these technologies can really benefit agriculture in some way. We all have a background in remote sensing and GIS, our team consists of three geographers and one computer scientist. Here are some of the best ways to get free rolls quickly:ġ. While some CMSs are great for putting up a dynamic website in a snap, others are too difficult to implement and use. While we all know about content management systems such as SageFrame, DNN, Joomla, wordpress and Drupal, you may be surprised to learn that there literally dozens and dozens of other content management systems out there, many of which do have their special niche. but I'm hoping that for an app with a simple UI like Free42, that would be manageable. At BLORGE we’re great fans of open source, and in particular, open source content management systems (CMS). Regarding the consistent user experience, I think all the Qt apps I've seen so far have been desktop apps, and they looked OK, but of course building desktop and mobile apps from the same codebase must be a challenge, since the small screen and the touch-based UI changes things a lot. I wouldn't count on having Qt available as shared libraries anywhere other than on Linux or other desktop Unixes.) How chunky are we talking here? (Actually, I guess that would affect the Windows and MacOS versions, too. Yes, I suppose that's hard to avoid on mobile, where the libraries would have to be statically linked. This guy makes decent tutorials, this one for Flutter: A drawback for you is probably that it uses a language called Dart, which is similar to javascript/like languages. Things may have changed, but today I would much rather write a new mobile app with the new hot Flutter framework from Google, which also creates speedy native executables. Yes, it creates native executables (no VM) and you can write in C++, but the QtCore, QtGui ++ libraries makes your app quite chunky, and I found it hard to create a nice consistent GUI experience. I did a Bluetooth mobile app project in Qt a few years ago, and must say it was a mixed experience. But the real benefit, if I do complete that port, is that Qt supports all five platforms that Free42 supports, so in theory I may be able to unify the code base to a large extent, and if that pans out, UI work in Free42 would become up to 80% less painful. This is mainly a learning exercise: I want to know more about Qt, and porting some real-world code to it is a great way to learn how to use it and what its strengths and weaknesses are. Having said that, I do intend to port Free42 to the Qt toolkit. I'm not looking forward to doing something like that again soon! (The "core" changes to support that feature are nothing to sneeze at, either, but for that I could at least take advantage of the work that has already been done by Byron Foster and by SwissMicros.) That factor of five can be pretty brutal, as I experienced when I implemented the state file manager in 2.5 it's not a particularly large bit of UI work, but not-particularly-large times five turned out to be stressful and exhausting. Apart from not finding the bigger display very interesting myself, one big problem is that because I maintain Free42 for five platforms, every change that isn't purely "core" has to be implemented five times, and the bigger display will require significant changes in the "shell" side of things. My impression after occasionally reading things Mr O writes, this won’t happen unless you jump into the code yourself. Next, hold the device horizontally and wait for it to rotate the UI accordingly then Main Menu -> Select Skin -> Landscape. Only the selection you make from that list is mode-dependent.įor example, to restore the skin selections to their defaults, perform these steps: hold the device vertically and wait for it to rotate the UI accordingly (make sure the orientation is not locked, neither in the OS settings nor in the Free42 preferences!) then Main Menu -> Select Skin -> Standard-4". Loading a skin, using the Load button in the Select Skin view, only adds it to the list of available skins, and that list is the same whether you're in portrait or landscape mode. Selecting a skin while in portrait mode sets it only for portrait mode, and selecting a skin while in landscape mode sets it only for landscape mode. Just be aware that the skin settings for portrait and landscape modes are separate and independent of each other. The problem is that the portrait skin got shown when my iPad was in landscape orientation - and when my iPad was in its portrait orientation, a different layout was shown. |
